October 27 My First Experience VotingA 19 year old's experience chronicled on his BlackBerry. Well I am in town for a few days on fall break. Since I will be away at school on November 4th, I have decided to vote early at my local library. The Clemmons Branch Library opened at 10am and I arrived at 10:54am. The was already a line wrapping around outside and there was almost no where to park. I ended up parallel parking in the grass and made my way to the end of the line. Its freezing cold and I begin to wonder why the elections are held in a warmer season like Spring. I decided that its to deter people from voting (CONSPIRACY!! lol) I've been waiting in line for 30 minutes and pass the time reading emails and messaging friends. After what seems like forever and a half, I finally make it indoors. I am still at least a 15 minute wait from the voting area but at least I'm warm. At this point I am contemplating turning around and going home. This just isn't worth it at all. I convince myself that I didn't want this long just to quit so I trudge along in line. As I entered the voting area I was instructed to put my BlackBerry away and proceeded to one of the volunteers(I'm guessing they were volunteers) with the Dell notebooks. I gave my name and drivers license and they handed me a voting form. I then waited in another shorter line to use one of the five voting machines. I then proceeded to one of the most archaic touch screen devices I had ever seen. The screen didn't properly register gestures and the screen sometimes had to be pushed two or three times. I voted Obama-Biden and then voted democratic for the remaining elections. I left with a sticker in my hand and satisfaction in my heart. My vote may not matter in the actual election but I sure felt like I did something. In all seriousness, the system seems flawed and we need online voting ASAP. The current system could be a lot more efficient. I think the hassle of voting is what keeps many people from not voting. Just look at the numbers from American Idol or America's Best Dance Crew, convenient voting = more votes. Sent from my BlackBerry® September 29 Windows Mobile No MoreI recently sold my HTC Mogul for a BlackBerry 8830 World Edition. I loved the phone but just got tired of all the soft resets and lack of memory. The hardware was poorly equipped to handle WinMo 6.1 and lagged consistenly. So now I'm a BlackBerry User aka Crackberry Addict whatever you want to call it. First are the pros. Loving the sleek look and ability to customize themes. The OS is very snappy and one handed use is, of course, much easier than with the Mogul. Things that I'm not too happy with are: The lack of customability compared to WinMo. The 4.2 OS doesn't support editing Word documents or html email. This surprised me as the BlackBerry is regarded as an email first device. Dealing with html email is a very ugly process. There is also a huge lack of freeware compared to WinMo; quality applications are expensive. The bluetooth is also locked down and obex isn't possible. Other than that however the piece of mind RIM gives me is welcomed with open arms. I'm no longer worried about my phone freezing up when I receive a phone call or having to reset the phone due to all the free memory being full. July 31 Manny goes westWell its official, Manny "Man-Ram" Ramirez is on his way to LA and Joe Torre while Jason Bay is going to Boston from Pittsburgh. Pitt also received four prospects, two from Boston and two from Los Angeles Boston gave up OF Brandon Moss and RHP Craig Hansen. Personally I feel like they gave up too much. I understand that they wanted Man-Ram outta there but they also lose the OF, Moss, who they kept around to take over for Manny in case he left. They also got rid of a developing pitcher who can throw the ball 97-98mph. This decision may come back to bite them in the ass. I have no problem with Bay however. At this point in the season him and Manny have very similar numbers and his defense is definitely better than Manny's. The team is definitely going to have to step their offense up as a whole. Hopefully this all works out for the Sox, only time will tell. July 29 Rest In Peace Ruslana KorshunovaI have just recently heard the news that 20 year old model, Ruslana Korshunova passed away yesterday at 2:30pm. She fell(or jumped) from her 9th floor balcony at 130 Water Street in Manhattan's Financial District. There were no signs of a struggle so this looks to be a suicide. Three months ago she declared: "I am so lost. Will I ever find myself?" and "My dream is to fly. Oh, my rainbow is too high." The Russian model was said to be heartbroken, lonely, and homesick. It has also been reported that she attempted to kill herself atleast 5 times since she was fifteen. Ruslana was the face of Blugirl by Blumarine, Clarins, Ghost, Girbaud, Kenzo Accessories, Marithé & François, Max Studio, Moschino, Old England, Pantene Always Smooth, Paul Smith and Vera Wang lingerie. Goodbye to Ms. Korshunova. You left us before your time. The fashion world will miss this talented beauty. July 25 The Peek - Worth it?A new mobile startup, Peek, is planning to release an email only device. Targeted at a $99 retail price and a $20 monthly charge this device will run on Tmobile's wireless network. The device won't play your mp3s, make phone calls or play video games. This purely email device will be thin, be fitted with a qwerty keyboard and said to have a bright, rich screen. While this sounds like a good idea for someone who just wants a simple phone to make calls and outsource the email duties to another device; this device is just over kill for people who carry smartphones and UMPCs already. I, however, don't see the point in paying an extra $20 a month for email when yo can just upgrade to a smartphone. This may work out in the corporate world. I can see this fairly cheap device being used for Work Email as long as it supports push email features. Without push email being supported I don't see this thing taking off at all.
