New phone

I just got a new phone yesterday. I took my ppc 6700,aka HTC Apache, into the sprint store because of a problem with my usb port. While I loved the phone it was definitely starting to show its age. The Sprint store didn't have any replacements for my phone so they upgraded me to a Mogul.

I absolutely love this new phone. I flashed it with mobile 6.1 and this thing is superior to my old phone in every way. Double the memory, greater battery life and a much sleeker design. While it technically isn't smaller or lighter it definitely feels like it. This thing will do fine to hold me over until the blackberry bold or htc touch pro.

Apple's MobileMe worth the price?

Many are rejoicing over Apple's new push email/synchronization feature. However, many are also griping over the $99 price tag that comes along with the service. First of all, I would just like to say while I enjoy free things like everyone else, I understand that everything can't be free and at the end of the day we all are trying to put food on the table for our family. The $99 fee is going towards the developers and maintenance workers who work with keeping the service running.

Personally, I prefer working with hosted exchange and feel safe with it. The pricing isn't bad and in some cases a free of charge service is offered. MobileMe has been quirky and has experienced some un-welcomed downtime. As of now I would recommend passing on it until it has had time to mature. For the time being, RIM is still king in the push email world with Exchange following close behind. The newcomer, MobileMe still needs to grow up and become more responsible if it wants to compete in the corporate world with the big boys.

The Pursuit of Happiness

What is happiness really? Is happiness buying a lot of shit you don't really need but want because you think it will make you feel better? Is happiness financial security? Is happiness making people proud of you? Or is happiness simply doing what you love regardless if its not what everyone wants you todo. Regardless if it makes you rich or not.

I'm really not sure what it all means. I buy shit I don't need and often regret it soon after. I have to have the shades, the shoes, the jeans and the shirt. All must be designer with a high sticker price to be worth anything. I want the big job. I want to wear the suit to work and have that financial security. At the same time I want todo what I love. Can I have all of this? Can happiness really be a simple yes or no decision? I don't think so. I think to be hppy you have to give some things up. You have to say yes to some things and no to others. You have to do whats right for you in the long run rather than the right now. Because long term happiness trumps the happiness in the short term. Simple short term happiness often results in long term regret.

But what the hell do I know? I'm lost right now too. I'm no wise prophet; just a shit talker talking some shit. Maybe happiness is an easy thing to come by and I just have a clue what I'm doing or what I want. The latter is probally right.

Wanted Review *spoilers*

Well I watched the new Wanted movie today and while it was a bit predictable at times, really enjoyed the movie. Angelina Jolie was absolutely stunning as usual and kicked some serious ass in this flick. The twist was predictable but the ending I didn't expect.

The biggest thing this movie had going for it was its fight scenes. The final battle was awesome with all the bloody details.

Morgan Freedman played a great mentor/villian and the casting for this movie was dead on. Even the minor characters were memorable and its easy to find a favorite among the bunch.

Overall I would give this movie a B+. While the plot isn't revolutionary, you will have a lot of fun and be entertained throughout the film.

Farewell Bill.

Well today's the day, Mr. Gates has finally stepped down. I'd just like to thank Bill for everything that he's given us through the years. While he's had his hits and misses through the years, the man has forever changed technology and will be missed. His work with charity is practically un-matched. He retires as the 3rd richest man in the world. (After holding the #1 spot but wishing he wasn't claiming the position was too hard.)

Thanks Bill, for everything, good luck in your venture to cure the world of poverty. If anyone can get it done, you can.

How do you use push email?

Are you more into nudge-mail or shove-mail? To help you make up your mind, below are some totally un-researched personality-types that might surface.

(Usual disclaimer applies: any resemblances, passing or otherwise to anyone dead or living is not intentional and strictly coincidental… wait a minute, nobody is forcing you to read this guide anyway right?!)

The Librarian Ninja

  • Synchronize your entire Exchange folder into your Pocket PC using ActiveSync when it is tethered to your PC/Laptop.
  • All means all. Compromise is not a word in your dictionary. You are a librarian, so everything is archived right? Everything is in your Pocket PC, including file attachments from half a decade ago. Space isn’t a problem because you have configured all the attachments to be saved on your spanking new 2GB mini-SD card. Crack-berry fans, go eat your hearts out.
  • Set it to option c, “When new items arrive” so that you are fully updated on new mails that comes into your Inbox.
  • And because you have all your Emails within reach, you can immediately verify if the claim by your staff pertaining to that amendment in the contract 2 months ago is really true.
  • Deliver an immediate, scathing ninja strike via Direct Push if the claim turns out to be false.

The Miser Workaholic

  • Synchronize the latest batch of pesky mails that seemed to have creep into your Inbox overnight before leaving for work in the morning.
  • Because company isn’t paying for your telecommunication charges, set it to Synchronize “Manually” to save on GPRS traffic.
  • Select “Send outgoing mail immediately” so that you can answer those urgent mails when commuting to work on the train.
  • Get nagged for two whole weeks by wife when attempting to do the same while on holiday.

The Blackberry Wannabe

  • Synchronize using cable? No way! Nothing less than “When new items arrive” and “Send outgoing mail immediately” will do for you.
  • It is so cool and geek to be able to talk loudly on your Windows Mobile phone on the crowded train and say: “Sure, no problem, let me send you the mail now.”
  • Problem is, all the Emails you have in your Inbox are forwarded to yourself by yourself. Because the only real Emails you ever receive are shows “Hotmail Staff” under the From field.

The Selective Road Warrior

  • Synchronization is set to “When new items arrive” – you won’t be called a road warrior with anything less isn’t it?
  • Synchronize the last 3 days of mail from your Inbox as well as the last 3 months of mails from your Sent folder just in case.
  • Yes you have the latest 2GB mini-SD cards, but with lexipedia, half a dozen dictionaries, assorted PDF, CHMs and enough EBooks to last you through a nuclear winter, you have got to be selective you know.
  • Actually, you used to have two of the 2GB mini-SD card. Well, until one day while you were swapping them on the move, one of them popped out of the spring-loaded SD slot, and into the elevator shaft.

Hotmail -> Live change

I've had my hotmail account for four years now, but I recently decided to switch over to the newer live.com domain. I had some doubts about doing this because I used my old email extensively and it received a lot of email. Though with a tool, provided by Microsoft, I was able to port all of my existing mail to my new address as well as forward any mail coming in. I am waiting for my ld mail to be imported (Giving the service atleast 24 hours) and if this works out i'll be estactic. I felt like my email needed a change so I completely renamed it but I will be keeping this space and continue to update it; and only use my new live id for emailing purposes.

Sent from my Windows Mobile® phone.

Paid for Checking Work Email at Home?

Recently ABC news writers have demanded to be paid time-and-a-half for checking their blackberries on their own time.

Personally, I think that checking work emails at home isn't that big of a deal. Most are tied to their blackberries and constantly check them so it isn't that much of an inconvience. I also agree with the argument that so many do personal errands at work so doing a few things like checking their email and staying connected isn't too unreasonable. This is to a point however, any out of work projects or dealing with something that takes more that 30 should incur some type of compensation for personal time lost.

We are in an age where many professions require us to be connected at all times and if you don't wish to be on-call you should switch professions.

Slow Day

Well today is a fairly slow day. Not really much todo, some shopping but other than that not shit. Planning on seeing the new Hulk movie sometime soon when I can get my cash flow going again. Job search continues so whoever wishes to employ me for great pay, feel free.

Beginning server build day

Well Memorial Day was fine. The usual cookout and family deal... Ate entirely too much meat but its memorial day, I think we're allowed to splurge a little. Now its back to working out and job hunting. Today I'll be setting up my dad's file server all day so I'll update later on the status. Hopefully it all goes according to plan and won't give me any problems.

My RocketDock Experience

I recently downloaded a Windows launcher called RocketDock. Its sort of a clone to OSX's Dock app. I've fallen in love with the damn thing, it's completely cleaned up my desktop. Doesn't require much to run so it operates smoothly under the modest conditions. Looks beautiful with many customizable features. Its skinnable and has many dockable objects.

Big Brown rolls in Preakness — crown's in sight

Kent Desormeaux, Big Brown

Well its that time again. Time for America to care about horse racing again. I only watch three horse races a year(two if the first two winners are different) but this is exciting. We watch because its history, its the elusive triple-crown and, once again, a new horse is in the running. Big Brown has an undefeated racing record and is trying to become the first Triple Crown in 30 years. Its some of the most exciting and drama filled entertainment in sports now. With it being the NBA Playoffs added to the pot. Big Brown and "The Big Three" are going to give us some great television for the next few weeks

I'm leaving, on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again

jetBlueI'm a traveling man. Right now I'm sitting in the airport using my phone tethered to my Thinkpad. I've got a bit of a wait since I missed  my flight and the next one isn't until 1pm.  I'm flying JetBlue, a one way ticket flying into JFK Airport for only $230.

Security check was a pain,as always. Shoes off, belt off, pockets empty(phone rang while it ran under the scanner. Had to empty my carry-on and scan the thinkpad separately. Overall a big pain in the ass that I really didn't feel like going through at 8 in the morning.

Well I'm going to watch a movie and by 3:45pm I should have touched down in NY and headed to Hartford, CT.

Talking about Woman indicted in MySpace suicide case

Quote

**FILE** In this Monday, Nov. 19, 2007 file photo, Tina Meier holds
two pictures of her daughter Megan who committed suicide last October
after receiving cruel messages on MySpace, in St. Charles, Mo. A federal
grand jury in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 15, 2008, indicted a Missouri
woman, Lori Drew of suburban St. Louis for her alleged role in
perpetrating a hoax on the online social network MySpace against Megan
Meier. ( AP Photo/Tom Gannam, File)A Los Angeles federal grand jury indicted a Missouri woman on Thursday over an alleged role in a MySpace online hoax played on a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide.

This story is extremely sad on many levels. I have to hand out three individual fails to the people involved with this story.

My first fail goes out to the woman who created the false MySpace page and tormented the little girl. Honestly, how old are you? You should have known way better to prey on the unbalanced emotions of a 13-year-old girl. Thats childish and petty you're an idiot. You, obviously batty old lady, fail.

My second fail goes out to the parents of this young girl. I'm putting the child's death on their shoulders. Its their fault for raising such a weak child who figured the only way to deal with her life was to end it. A lot of people have problems and a lot of people get teased; but they still wake up every morning and get through th day. he parents should have noticed signs of their daughters depression and done something before it got to the point it did. The parents, unfortunately, failed.

My last fail goes out to the asinine charges being put on the Mother accussed. Honestly, "conspiracy" and "accessing protected computers without authorization to get information" ? Any information that someone displays on the internet for all to see is public information in my opinion. Since the 'net has been accessible to the public it has been preached time and time again to watch what you say and who you say it to. These charges are, obviously, just being used to bring publicity to the case.

If this seems at all harsh in anyway then I'm sorry; but there are more ruthless things going on around the world as we speak. One girls death, in the large aspect of things, isn't going to change much but hopefully her story will persuade parents to start taking a keen interest on what their kids are doing for those 4+ hours online.

America's Idol?

Remember that Justin guy from the first American Idol? How come so many people voted for him but nobody but his album? Last time I saw him on tv he was on the hosting something on the TV guide. Some star. Point being, American Idol is a joke and 98% of its contestants have no talent.

I hear its having its lowest viewer numbers ever so hopefully people are wising up.

Sick of Linux FanBoys and Vista Bashers

 vista_xp
Remember when everyone hated xp because it:

a) was too "pretty" with its useless bubbly theme and sounds
b) the installation was too large
c) was a memory pig needing way more RAM than windows 2000 did
d) was too buggy

Its funny how people forgot about how much they were bashing xp when it first came out and now it’s the greatest version of windows. Even funnier how these are the same complaints they have about vista.

remember these charts? "linux>win2000>xp"

Get over it and adapt. Every new operating system requires new hardware, so stop being cheap asses. Even ubuntu is a much bigger OS than it was a few years ago
